Early Years Foundation Stage
Early Years Foundation Stage
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to develop their potential. At Crown Street Pre-School and Reception Year we offer a safe, caring and enabling learning environment which focuses on developing communication and language skills, social and emotional wellbeing, literacy and numeracy skills.
We provide a broad and balanced curriculum based on the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The Early Years Foundation Stage has seven areas of learning and development which are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.
These are the three prime areas:
- Communication and Language
The development of children’s spoken language underpins all seven areas of learning and development.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED) is crucial for children to lead healthy and happy lives, and is fundamental to their cognitive development.
- Physical Development
Physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active live.
A further four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
