Travel to School

Crown Street Primary School is located on Silvercroft Street in the New Jackson neighbourhood which is accessed from Great Jackson Street off the A56 in Manchester City Centre (you can use the postcode M15 4ZB or find the school using What3Words.

There are wayfinding posts and maps around the neighbourhood, and you can easily find us nestled between the Elizabeth Tower and The Blade. Signage is in place to direct children in the Early Years Pre-School and Reception classes, and pupils for other year groups.  Visitors should use the Main Entrance and report to the school reception.

Parking in the neighbourhood is limited, parents will not be able to drive up to the school building and so we recommend public transport, walking, scooting and cycling to get to school.

Walking, cycling or scooting

An active lifestyle is at the core of school life and many pupils walk, scoot and cycle to school. Storage facilities are available in the public spaces and directly outside the school entrance near the Early Years outdoor space.

There are crossing facilities on the Chester Road roundabout and other main junctions in the area, and there is a footbridge across the A57 Mancunian Way providing a link between Crown Street and Jackson Crescent.

The public spaces around the school are pedestrianised and vehicle-free to allow pupils, staff and visitors to walk around neighbourhood safely.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s Bee Network has extensive cycling routes near the school.

The closest bus stops are located on Whitworth Street West, Bridgewater Viaduct and Chester Road. Two bus services (255 and X50) and the Free Bus stop are within a five-minute walk from the school.

The nearest train station is Deansgate which it is located around 470m north-east of the school. Trains operate to Piccadilly, Oxford Road, Alderley Edge, Blackpool North, Warrington Central, Barrow-in-Furness and Preston.

Car parking

Due to the location of the school, we strongly recommend active travel – walking, scooting, cycling (we do have storage for scooters and bikes on site) or the use of public transport. However, we appreciate that some of you may drive – please note parking around school is incredibly limited.

There are a number of on-street pay & display parking bays on Great Jackson Street, which have a 15-minute grace period to help with a free and speedy drop off and pick up for parents/carers of Crown Street Primary School. To identify yourself as such, you will need to display a pass in your car – please speak to the School Office if this applies to you. Should you feel that 15-minutes is not enough time, these bays have a cost of 50p for 30 minutes (from 8am) which can be paid through the Pay By Phone App. Please note that the school does not operate these bays and so any queries or concerns with charges or penalties will need to be sent to Manchester City Council.

There is also a CitiPark car park off Sivercroft Street (M15 4ZB – it is underneath the school site) and charges are on display there, but please be aware that for all entries into this car-park between 6.30am – 9am an ‘Early-Bird Tariff’ of £6.50 applies.

Contractors and deliveries

School deliveries can be made at the back of the school building, on Silvercroft Street (M15 4ZB). Please drive carefully around the right-hand side of the school, using the intercom at the “Pupil Entrance” door to call the School Estates Team. Please pay attention to speed limits and other instructional signage in place around the neighbourhood and development areas.
